Translucence Biosystems recently participated in the annual Tissue Clearing Workshop at Harvard Medical School, hosted by the Microscopy Resources on the North Quad (MicRoN) core, from February 10–12, 2025. This 3-day workshop offered lectures on tissue clearing and expansion microscopy, hands-on instrument and software demos, poster sessions, and opportunities to connect with fellow tissue clearing enthusiasts.
CEO, Damian Wheeler, and Product Innovation and Business Development Manager, Nathaniel Guanzon, discussed tools and technologies Translucence Biosystems is developing to expand access to 3D tissue clearing and AI-powered analysis and quantification techniques. On Monday Guanzon discussed 3D tissue clearing tips, tricks, and products. While traditional histological techniques cut tissues into thin slices, tissue clearing renders intact biological samples optically transparent by removing light-scattering lipids while preserving proteins for immunolabeling.
Attendees were also introduced to 3D Tissue Imaging, which following 3D tissue clearing, enables high-resolution, three-dimensional imaging of large intact samples with unprecedented speed and resolution. Finally, Guanzon shared tools for 3D AI-Powered Quantification which leverage artificial intelligence for quantitative analysis of 3D histological data.
Whether attendees were new to the field or seasoned experts, this workshop provided actionable insights to advance their research.
