UCI Beall Applied Innovation recently recognized nominees and awardees, virtually, at the third annual UC Irvine Innovator Awards.

This video of neurons in a mouse brain was created by Sunil Gandhi, Ph.D., Damian Wheeler, Ph.D., and Ricardo Azevedo, M.D./Ph.D. candidate, neuroscientists and founders of Translucence Biosystems. This biotechnology company provides researchers and clinicians with fast, reliable 3D analysis of biological samples. Dr. Wheeler and his team have a BRAIN Initiative grant to develop new tools and technologies to collect high-resolution whole brain snapshots of neural activity in 3D.

We are excited to announce that Translucence Biosystems has entered into a collaborative and strategic relationship with Carl Zeiss AG to promote the use of the Mesoscale Imaging SystemTM with the new ZEISS Lightsheet 7 microscope, designed to advance the 3D histology revolution.

Translucence Biosystems Co-Founder Sunil Gandhi Ph.D. receives “Entrepreneurial Leader of the Year award” at the 2020 UCI Innovator Awards hosted by the Beall Family Foundation. The award recognizes “an innovator who has shown an enterprising spirit by transforming at least one significant innovation from the university into a market-ready product or service.”

Translucence Biosystems is excited to announce that we have received first place in the 2020 BRAIN Initiative® Show Us Your BRAINs! Photo & Video Contest. The winning video was in under 20 minutes using the Mesoscale Imaging System™.

Translucence Biosystems has entered a collaborative research project with the lab of Thomas Lane, Ph.D. at UC Irvine to investigate the effects of coronaviruses, including SARS-CoV, on neuroinflammation. We are excited to utilize our technology for whole-brain measurements of various aspects of neuroinflammation to help understand the mechanisms underlying the cognitive effects of COVID-19.
